I want to begin this missive by saying Happy Independence Day to all our American friends. You’ve earned the right to be an independent and proud people.
Whenever another country is in need of assistance, America is the first country to step up to the plate. The American economy has set a high standard for all other nations to
follow. That’s the good.
This year, there are a diverse collection of disasters that will prevent many Americans from celebrating all that they could be. Besides an economy that is struggling to recover, the wild fires in California and Colorado have destroyed the homes of hundreds of residents. Many will spend the 4th. in a shelter or a hotel instead of hosting a family picnic in the backyard. The millions who are currently living without electricity in an above normal heat wave will also have other things on their minds than celebrating their country’s accomplishments. That is the bad.
The ugly rears is head in the form of a declining morality, a dearth of Christian values, and the constant fight for more toys, more property, and more money. Contentment has flown the coop in America. Because Apple brings out a new IPAD, the old one is no longer enough. We must have the latest, and the best, and our thirst extends well beyond our electronic toys. What was morally reprehensible a few years ago, has
become the norm, the accepted, and the tolerated.
become the norm, the accepted, and the tolerated.BUT America is still beautiful. If other religions are becoming more dominant, there are still those who adhere to the values and standards of the founding fathers. Generosity, for whatever motive, abounds. There is a lot more I could say about this land of promise but you all know why you love your country. Be proud while being cautious. Be loyal to your flag while remembering what it stands for. And above all, enjoy your freedoms. You are one of a handful of countries who have them.
