I began this book from a collection of
short stories. When I contrived the murder plot, most people
had never heard the term road rage and very few incidences of
people killing a stranger out of sheer uncontrolled anger was
ever read about in the newspapers.
After I had written about 80 pages, I
took some college courses, had a professor critique the book
and sent it to publishers. I now understand that publishers
receive so many manuscripts from new authors each year that it
is an impossibility for them to read them all. So after 20
form letter rejections, I shelved the project.
During our move to Iowa, I lost the
computer disc the book was stored on so had to wait until I
purchased a scanner to store it once again on my computer's
hard drive instead of as pages in my file cabinet. About that
same time I began writing for local newspapers so my time for
personal writing became limited.
About 2 years ago, I found myself with
more free time so I dusted off Mind Trap and began the
rewrite. By then, my writing skills had improved and I was
able to flesh out my story. In doing so, I added 244 pages
with the help of a good friend and my editor, Linda Blackwood.
