As Shih-Tzu puppies, or any newborn
litter of puppies for that matter will do, the six little
puppies born in that sunny kitchen only three weeks ago were
huddled together in their corner of the box they called home.
The box had a warm blanket for them to snuggle into and high
walls that only permitted the humans to peer inside but the
puppies could not see anything beyond those walls.
Since their adventure in the large room
with Auntie Muffin, they all knew that there was more to their
world than they could see. At three weeks of age they were
awake for longer periods of time so they decided to coax their
human to take them out of their box more often. Mewling, as
puppies do, they scuffled, and shook their box until finally,
two hands reached in and placed each one in a large red wagon.
Oh, the wagon wasn't really that large
but to these little puppies it was huge. "I wonder where we
are going?" asked Rosalie, ever in the need for more
adventure.
"I think we are going for a ride to the
outside of this building," answered Navy, the largest of the
male puppies. He had been born first so felt he was the wisest
of the litter. It wouldn't be long before his authority would
be tested.
"What's outside," asked Lily, the most
timid of the puppy family. "I don't want to go outside!"
Oh, hush," and Alexis gave her a little
push toward the back of the wagon. "We can't stay in that box
forever. We need space and I want to see the world."
The human patted each puppy, some trying
out their bark for the first time, and then grabbed the handle
of the wagon to pull it through the sliding doors and onto a
large wooden deck.
"Wow!" exclaimed Pearl, forever looking
to get into some trouble. "Look at all that blue stuff up
there. The roof is so pretty."
