Author Archives: Barbara Ann Derksen

Watching the expressions on the faces of her readers as well as answering questions about her characters is what drives author and speaker, Barbara Ann Derksen to write yet another book and another. Her favorite genre is murder mystery but each book brings forth characters who rely on God as they solve the puzzle in their life. Her readers also have a tremendous amount of input when they wonder what happened to this character or that one, even if they are secondary to the story. Barbara’s devotionals are sought after each year when she publishes a new one that reflects what God has placed on her heart. From Straight Pipes, her first, to Chaps, the latest, Barbara’s devotions take people to the place where God can touch their heart and leave a lasting impression. Born in Canada, Barbara lived in the US for 12 years. There her writing surfaced and her readership expanded but now the Canadian public has discovered the gift that God has given yet another Canadian. She is a member of The Word Guild and Christian Motorcyclists Association where each summer her books are used to entertain and encourage.. Barbara has spoken across the US for women’s groups on topics such as The Writing Experience, working in the ministry of Christian Motorcyclists Association, Love, Parenting, Time Management, and a host of others. With 12 books to her credit, each one surpasses the last, according to her readers.

From The Miniscule to the Majestic

A question that often travels across the frontal lobe of my brain, or whatever place the brain handles questions, is, “Why would God create such a vast universe if all He wanted was one inhabited planet?” Secular scientists try to present a case for other life forms living on other planets, but, being a strong […]

Surrounded and Wrapped

God shows His love for us every day and in many ways. He created us as individuals so treats us accordingly. What sends one person to his or her knees in awe, doesn’t turn the head of the next person. But yesterday, I looked out my window to see a dense fog. More importantly, it […]

Lamp and Light

Psalm 119:105 – Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path God’s Word, David writes, lights his feet and the path they tread on. That’s what the Bible should do for us. It should go before us to light the way so that our path becomes the path that […]

Psalm 119:11 – I have hidden Your word in my heart that I might not sin against You God’s Word, hidden in our heart…memorized…pops up when we are tempted. It sharpens our conscience, helps us to do what is right…before we sin. It also reminds us as soon as we fall into temptation so we […]

Sword – Word of God The sword is the inky weapon of offense in this list of armor. There are times when we need to take the offensive against Satan. When we are tempted we need to trust in the truth of God’s word.              Word (special revelation from God) Deut. 8:3 – He humbled […]

Salvation of Souls

1 Peter 1:9 – …for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Peter, in his first letter to the believers all over the known world, writes that the goal of our faith is Salvation for our soul. Last night I read a book of poems to two of my […]

Inherit Salvation

Hebrews 1:14 – Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation? Angels, the Bible says, are sent to serve those who are saved. That gives us a tremendous incentive to seek the Lord and allow Him full control over our lives. When we do that, the Bible says we […]

Salvation is Nearer

Romans 13:11 – …The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed Paul reminds all those who are still not secure in their salvation to awake. They are to step away from the sleep of carnal security…that rest that causes them […]
